Pandaren Way Of Life

Well... It's been a more than a month since I visited this place... I've been thinking about moving back to tabulas or some new blog hosting thing...

I'm not really up for posting a rant blog entry today... so I'll save my "Moving Back to Tabulas" story for later and keep this post all about a cute and cuddly Panda...

Anyways... been addicted to Frozen Throne's Defender of the Ancients for a couple of months now... and just like how I loved playing Chen Stormstout: Pandaren Brew Master in Frozen Throne... I've been loving Mangix: Pandaren Battle Master for most of the couple long hours play of DoTa...

I know some of you guys already miss me in our DoTa sessions... just been a little busy with RAN lately... and I know you might be saying... WTF it's been a month since you last played with us in DoTA dude... this post is waaaaaaaaaaaay delayed...  well... this has been on my drafts for months now... so there...

Here's a little info on the Pandaren...

A Pandaren BrewmasterPandaren Society

Pandaren society has changed from its origins. Where once the pandaren were a mighty empire, standing proud beside their night elf allies, now they are a simple people who want only peace and a safe home. Yet the world is a dangerous place, and only through an acceptance of the violence that comes with life can the pandaren continue to prosper.
Pandaren society is, in many ways, compartmentalized. At their core, the pandaren treasure peace and creativity. Most pandaren are poets and singers, and the craftsmen of their culture are truly revered. The danger of their lives, however, has necessitated the evolution of a class of warriors to defend those ideals - it is these warriors, from the simplest pikeman to the great shodopans, who ensure that pandaren culture survives.
Even the lowliest pandaren is capable of defending himself, using the fangs and stubby but needle-like claws that are a natural part of his body. All pandaren can use these natural weapons to fight and hunt, as pandaren grow up playing rough and tumble games meant to hone their abilities while learning the admonishments of their elders that such things are a lastresort. In general, pandaren prefer to use the weapons they craft, feeling that their natural weapons hearken back to a primal time.
Pandaren are bipedal creatures, but their pseudo-ursine forms allow them to move at tremendous speed on four limbs. When a pandaren drops down to all fours, his speed increases greatly. He must have nothing in his hands to use quadrupedal movement.
The Pandaren are the smallest of the bestial races and seem positively tiny next to the hulking bulk of the Furbolgs. However, they seem much less like beasts than their apparent cousins. They value honor, discipline and friendship above all else. Gain the companionship and trust of a Pandaren, they say, and you have a friend and protector for life.
[edit]
Shamanistic
Like the furbolgs, Tauren and Wildhammer Dwarves, the Pandaren follow a shamanistic faith, worshipping the Earth Mother and giving passage to their dead. They are true geomancers, drawing their holy power directly from the Earth Mother. They also follow a new philosophy (new to the other residents of Kalimdor, of course); they are a society that reacts, instead of acting first. They claim to be the water that flows around a rock: The water does not push the rock out of the way, it merely goes around it. They use this uncomplicated way of thinking in their everyday life. If they set their minds to a task, and they fail, then they believe they went about it the wrong way and try again. They do not mourn for failures, believing that they simply have mapped out improper ways to do things and they will know better next time. This philosophy seems simple, but the pandaren apply it to every aspect of their lives, from brewing beer to adventuring. They are calm, affable types who will extend the hand of friendship to a stranger on the road - but if the stranger is hostile, the hand of friendship can quickly turn into an excruciating joint lock.
[edit]
Love of Beer
What may surprise those who encounter the pandaren most, however, is their unabashed love for beer. Most religious and meditative people on Kalimdor consider alcohol a drink for the masses, a drink whose properties cloud the mind and block contemplation of the gods. The Pandaren laugh at this notion. The ideal day for a Pandaren begins with meditation and ends with a good drink with a better friend. They love encountering folk who live life to the fullest; they enjoy adventuring; and they are happiest in a tavern swapping stories and buying rounds for the house. Those lucky enough to meet a Pandaren and share in his ale will undoubtedly find it to be the best beer they have ever tasted. The down side to this, of course, is that they will no longer enjoy Kalimdor-brewed beer as much.
[edit]
Martial Artists
They take the same stance regarding their martial arts as they do every other part of their lives. They use what works, perfecting it with terrifying results, and they don't use what doesn't work. If an injured leg won't allow the pandaren to kick very high, he gives up that kind of kick and perfects another. If up against a massive opponent, the Pandaren will not waste time trying to match strength with strength, as the opponent represents the rock in the river to them. They find a clever way to best their opponent while expending the least strength necessary. They are formidable monks, following their philosophies to the letter and perfecting their martial arts as they see fit.
Note: Pandaren philosophy points indirectly at the Chinese martial Tai-Chi, because of its soft gental nature and powerful attacks. It also is a style that tries not to hurt the opponent, just disarm them. Because Pandarens do not join sides or choose to hurt anybody (thats why they stay a neutral race) which is the same as Tai-Chi. The style also shows the same philosphy as the Pandarens religion.

Actually... I placed all that long and boring geeky stuff hoping that people would be bored enough to skip this post and read something else...

[sigh]... well enough about my fantasy world... meanwhile... in real life... been bombarded with a couple of self-depreciating low-downs... and I've been thinking... from now on... I will adhere to the Pandaren way of life... I will no longer dwell in the 'what-could-have-beens'... i will no longer fall into the depths of 'wallow-in-self-pity'... but instead... like the Pandarens, I will no longer have regrets... which is something I seems to be collecting a alot like cobwebs in the past year...

F*ck-it... I'm ready to leave Panderia and explore the world... learn new crafts and enjoy life like a mug of ale...

Tonight I can write the saddest lines.

Tonight I can write the saddest lines.

Write for example, “The night is starry and the stars are blue and shiver in the distance...

"The night wind revolves in the sky and sings."

Tonight I can write the saddest lines. I loved her, and sometimes she loved me too.

Through nights like this one I held her in my arms. I kissed her again and again under the endless sky.

She loved me, sometimes I loved her too. How could one not have love her great still eyes.

Tonight I can write the saddest lines. To think that I do not have her. To feel that I have lost her.

To hear the immense night, still more immense without her. And the verse falls to the soul like dew to the pasture.

What does it matter that my love could not keep her? The night is starry and she is not with me.

This is all... In the distance someone is singing... In the distance... My soul is not satisfied that it has lost her.

My sight tries to find her as though to bring her closer. My heart looks for her, and she is not with me.

The same night whitening the same trees. We, of that time, are no longer the same.

I no longer love her, that’s certain, but how I loved her. My voice tried to find the wind to touch her hearing.

Another’s... she will be another’s... as she was before my kisses. Her voice, her bright body. Her infinite eyes.

I no longer love her, that’s certain, but maybe I love her. Love is so short, forgetting is so long.

Because through nights like this one, I held her in my arms my soul is not satisfied that it has lost her.

Though this be the last pain that she makes me suffer and these the last verses that I write for her.

Why do people blog?

I have seven reasons...
1.  Because I am two pints exibitionist... To Chronicle their pathetic existence.
2.  Too lazy to do anything worth while.
3.  Because I am audacious enough to vent my pent up daily bullshit but too spineless to voice it out in real life.
4.  Because people are doing it.
5.  To quench my hunger for socialization.
6.  To spread love.
7.  Because I want to have a space.

How about you? Why you blogging?

Impacted Wisdom Tooth + RAN Online

Honestly didn't know Impacted Tooth can come to this... the pain's been bothering me for quite some time now... it got to point where the swelling is already affecting my tonsils and sinuses... to the point where I haven't had anything to eat for 1.5 days cause of the pain... so i had my panoramic x-ray of my mandibles which my dentist has been requesting for months... and had my wisdom tooth extracted... it was one hour of gruelling struggle with my dentist and his tools... pliers, drills, and scalpel... the works...

I'm quite ok now really... suture's been removed and i can now eat normally... dentist says i healled up far quickly than others... half as fast than average... what more painfull though is the 6K it cost me to have the operation... Medicard won't cover it... just hope flexed benefits can...

Been very busy with RAN Online for the 3 days I've been away while healing up... It's a school type environment where they have 3 Schools [Sacred Gate; Phoenix; and Mystic Peak] rival each other... you can also have gangs within a school to rival other gangs... plus the PvP [or sometimes called PK in other MMORPGs= Player versus Player] is somewhat pretty addicting...

it's pretty decent game... check it out... I'm giving it 3 Ankhs just because it's Free2Play FOREVER... tooth extraction sucked up moolah...

Le Fleurs du mal: Le Vampire

You… sharper than a dagger thrust
Sink into my plaintive heart,
You… frenzied and arrayed in lust,
Strong as daemon host whose art

Possessed my humbled soul at last,
Made it your nest and domain,
Strumpet, to whom I am bound fast
As is the prisoner to his chain,

The stubborn gambler to his dice,
The rabid drunkard to his bowl,
The carcass to its vermin lice —
O thrice-accursèd be your soul!

I have entreated the swift sword
To strike, that I at once be freed;
The poisoned phial I have implored
To plot with me a ruthless deed.

But sword and poison in my need
Heaped scorn upon my craven mood,
Saying: "Unworthy to be freed,
From my accursed servitude,

“O fool, if through our efforts, Fate
Absolved you from your sorry plight,
Your kisses would resuscitate
Your vampire's corpse for your delight."

You've broken me...
Forcedme and ravaged me...

Never have I allowed anyone to defile my mind...
And penetrate my soul.

You've relentlessly raped my past...
And for that I hate myself...

I hate myself for letting you into my soul...
I hate you for forcing me;

I hate you for opening me up
And dispersing the shroud I built around me.

I hate you for all these things you did tonight
And enjoying every minute of it.

The memoirs of pain and suffering
You drank like a rabid bat.

And I detest that I liked it...
And I detest that allowed it...

My heart bursts in crimson tidings...
As I hid my feelings with a grin;
But I console myself with the taste
Of a droplet of your blood in my lips.

I closed my eyes and cherished the moment...
And await the morrow for another taste.

Tempura

A few month's back... I brought home-made tempura [shrimp, crabsticks, eggplant, okra] to the office...

I bought the tempura flour and tempura sauce [pre-made and bottled] in the Japanese section of Rustans Supermarket...

Needless to say, lablab and my other officemates enjoyed it... since then, lablab was in search for the perfect Tempura and Tempura Sauce [which i just now learned that it is more properly called Tentsuyu Sauce]...

Just this morning I over heard lablab talking to her seatmates about Tempura... so I asked her how her quest for the perfect tempura recipe was going... she sent me this one:

Main Ingredients:

1/3 kilo shrimps, medium sized, 12 pcs.
3 cups cooking oil

Ingredients for the batter:

1 pc. egg
½ cup cold water
1 cup flour

Tempura Sauce:

½ cup water
1 pc. beef bouillon cube
2 tbsps. soy sauce
1 tbsp. sugar
½ tsp. msg
2 tbsps. ginger, grated and squeezed to rid of excess liquid
½ pc. radish, grated and squeezed to rid of excess liquid

Procedure:
Rinse shrimps. Drain well in Handy Strainer.

Shell shrimps, leaving tails intact. Cut off tips of tails. Push out water from tails with back of knife.

Devein shrimps. For shrimps not to curl up when fried, make a few cuts on the inside curve of the shrimps.

Starting from tail end, squeeze out excess water from shrimp body until neck end is reached.

Arrange in a Freezermate in a straight line. Freeze while preparing other ingredients.

In a deep frying pan, put oil to at least 3 inched deep. Put over medium heat.

Make batter while waiting for the oil to reach 320 degrees F: In a Thatsa Bowl Jr., beat egg. Stir in cold water. Add flour and mix lightly. In a Thatsa Bowl, put ice and water. Nest Thatsa Bowl Jr. in a Thatsa Bowl to cool batter.

Hold shrimp by the tail. Dip in batter one at a time.

Put 4 to 6 shrimps in the hot oil to cook.

Using chopsticks, remove shrimp from oil when crisp. Shake off excess oil.

Drain on paper towels. Do not stack one on top of another as this will make the earlier batches of fried tempura soggy.

Prepare Tempura Sauce: Mix all ingredients except radish and ginger. Bring to a boil. Put in a bowl. Serve hot with radish and ginger on the side.

Serve Shrimp Tempura with Tempura Sauce immediately.
Variations:
    • Replace shrimps with assorted vegetables, julienne cut.
    • Replace shrimps with fish strips or squid slices.

Anyways, lablab has been having troubles with the taste of her tempura sauce [Tentsuyu Sauce]... so with a little research... I now know what ingredient her recipe lacks...

Apparently, Tentsuyu Sauce is made roughly of three parts dashi1, one part mirin2, and one part shoyu3.

That’s the reason why lablab has been very unsuccessful in making her home made tempura sauce… out of the many ways to make Dashi… only shiitake is locally available… but those mushrooms are overly expensive.

Another problem is Mirin [Japanese Sweet Rice Wine]… good luck in finding them locally…

I also found another secret… tempura should be deep-fried in sesame oil… which I think is more expensive than olive oil.

Anyways… we can always dilute the sesame oil in normal cooking oil if it’s too expensive… as for the sauce, there’s no choice but to buy those pre-made bottled ones…

There… hmmm learned a lot of things tempura today… It's making my mouth water just thinking of tempura... maybe I’ll grab a bag of groceries before I go home…

Itadakimasu!!!

1Dashi is one of several simple soup stocks considered fundamental to Japanese cooking. The most common form of dashi is a simple broth or stock made by heating kombu (edible kelp) and katsuobushi (flakes of dried bonito) in water and then straining the resultant liquid. Dashi forms the base for miso soup, Japanese noodle broth, and many Japanese simmering liquids. Fresh dashi made from kelp and katsuobushi is rare today, even in Japan. Most people use granulated or liquid instant substitutes.

Other kinds of dashi stock are made by soaking kelp, shiitake, or niboshi in water for many hours or heating them in water nearly to boiling and then straining the resultant broth. Kelp stock or konbu dashi is made by soaking kelp, or sea tangle, in water. Shiitake dashi stock is made by soaking dried shiitake mushrooms in water. Niboshi dashi stock is made by soaking small dried sardines (after pinching off their heads and entrails) in water.

2Mirin (kanji: hiragana) is an essential condiment used in Japanese cuisine, with a slightly sweet taste. It is a kind of rice wine similar to sake, but with a lower alcohol content. In the Edo period, Mirin was drunk as a sweet sake.

3Shoyu is Japanese soysauce.

Haunt my lucid mind.

O curse! curse! curse! your angel smile.
Oh soft matte lips of yearnings...

O blissful wiles and times of phantasm;
That soothes my soul and feeds my life...

Let me enfolded you under my wings,
And leave this place to nest.

Let us fly to the skies, clouds and beyond.
Until we reach the god Ra and burn.

Happy Easter!!!

I know it's too late to talk about Easter today... but what the heck... this is my blog anyways...

Warning... I can't promise to check political correctness throughout this blog entry... so walk away now if you're one of those political corretness police...

Also, another warning... this may be a long babble post that might bore you to death... so walk away now if you have anything more important to attend to.  Or hopefully you get bored mid-way and stop reading even before you get to the juicy parts.

Did you know that Easter was originally a pagan celebration that means spring is coming... the name itself was derived from Eostre, the Anglo-Saxon goddess of spring.

The Germanic name for spring's goddess means "movement towards the rising sun." Ostara was celebrated in the fourth month of the year, April, according to the British scribe Bede the Venerable, writing in the seventh century CE.

Over a thousand years later, the Grimm brothers found that she was still honored in Germanic lands, where her name was used for the month she ruled. In Anglo-Saxon, her name became Estre or Eastre, which survives today in the festival of rebirth, Easter, and in the mood encouraged by springtime, estrus. She was honored among the Germanic people with painted eggs, a tradition that survives today.

I haven't really mentioned how the Christians robbed/adapted the Easter pagan Sabbath and made it their own religious holiday because as we all know, this is a very taboo topic... It's the same with Christmas day... it was originally a Roman religious holiday dated even before Christianity started... Yule was a very special holiday for the Romans where everyone was out in the streets merry making... the Christians probably saw this as a great opportunity to adapt the date so that every Romans out on the street that day would be in a way celebrating Christmas.

Last Good Friday, I had lunch with my better half... I mentioned that I noticed that the number of people talking about spiritual cleansing, as dictated by the culture of a majorly catholic country, has come down to none... It was also mentioned that the holy week, specially Easter Sunday, has lost its meaning...

I wasn't actually surprised... even when I was back in high-school [which is about the same time i explored all sects of the Christian faith: catholic, born again, protestant, Jehovah’s witness etc], I already foresaw the fall of the catholic church...  or lost of the meaning of all the major religious groups in the world... and I wasn't wrong at all... by the time I went to college, neo-paganism, new-age spirituality and other eclectic spiritual paths started to flourish... I started exploring some of these new trends and sought a spiritual path that was right for me...

Back to the Good Friday lunch... our conversation revolved around the spirit of the death-and-rebirth of Christ... and about how the catholic church is slowly losing its grip on the people... suddenly I remembered a line in Paolo Coelho's "The Zahir", where he mentioned that organized religion, or what I call Theist Religion, is no longer applicable in today's culture... he also mentioned that a new age is beginning to dawn with these massive birth of new-age Zen spiritualities

I was about to mention this, when I was suddenly shushed to silence because according to her, these topics shouldn't be talked about in public.
